Rough cold idle, misfires, hesitation or a drop in power and MPG? On a direct-injection BMW that's almost always carbon caked onto the intake valves. We walnut-blast it back to clean metal — restoring smooth power and economy — done the right way, for a fraction of dealer pricing.
Searching for BMW carbon buildup cleaning in San Antonio? Here's the why: modern BMW (and Audi) engines use direct injection, which sprays fuel straight into the cylinder instead of over the intake valves. That's great for power and efficiency — but it means the valves never get washed by fuel, so oil vapor from the crankcase bakes onto them as hard carbon over tens of thousands of miles. Eventually that crust chokes airflow and the engine runs rough.
The only proper fix is mechanical: walnut blasting. We remove the intake manifold, seal off each port, and blast the valves with crushed walnut shell media — abrasive enough to strip carbon, soft enough to leave the valves unharmed. Chemical sprays and "fuel additives" can't touch baked-on intake-valve carbon; only media blasting truly cleans it. We reassemble with fresh OEM gaskets and verify the result.
A thorough job — not a can of spray cleaner down the intake.
We confirm carbon is the cause — borescope the valves and read fault codes — before any work.
Intake removed, ports sealed, valves media-blasted back to clean metal — the correct method.
Intake manifold cleaned and refitted with fresh OEM gaskets and seals on reassembly.
Spark plugs, coils or a valve-cover gasket due? Doing it together saves labor since the top end is open.
We verify smooth idle and clean running so you feel the restored power and economy.
Backed by our 24-month / 24,000-mile guarantee, with OEM-quality parts throughout.
Carbon comes on gradually, so owners often don't notice how much power they've lost until after a cleaning. If you drive a direct-injection N54, N55, N20, N63 or B58 BMW past roughly 60,000–80,000 miles, these are the tell-tale signs.
Not sure? We'll borescope the valves and show you. For full BMW service, see our BMW repair page.
Both brands' direct-injection engines build carbon the same way — and we walnut-blast both.
"My 335i had a rough idle and misfire codes for months. GCS walnut-blasted the valves and it runs like new again — smooth idle, power's back. Way less than the dealer wanted."
"They showed me before-and-after photos of the intake valves — night and day. My X5 pulls harder and the MPG came back. Done right."
"Did the carbon cleaning on my Audi S4 along with plugs and coils in one visit. Saved on labor and it feels brand new. Knowledgeable crew."
Tell us your model and the symptoms and we'll quote a walnut-blasting service the same business day — and tell you honestly whether you need it yet.
